..that August is a healthier month around here! We kicked off July with Nate getting a pretty horrific cold virus. He then passed it to Luke, who thankfully fought it off very nicely but was a just fussy and tired. The next week I get a terrible stomach virus that hung around for a little less than 2 weeks. In the middle of this was Luke's 1st birthday that I was thankfully feeling enough up to putting the party together! By the end of that experience, (the next week) Luke started showing signs of it but didn't act like he felt bad at all! I thought it was the transition from formula to milk, and he didn't have a fever in the beginning like I did. He went about being his normal, happy self until about 5 days into it, he spiked a pretty high fever. This is the first ever experience with Luke having a fever for me, and it landed him at the Dr.'s office for the first time in his life! (for sickness). She concluded it was a stomach virus and his body just gave into it finally with the fever. Thank the Lord, he was back to normal the next day (this past Friday, making it a week long issue). But.... Nate comes home early from work Friday with his now stomach virus! Aaaaand.. it's continuing on even today! He thankfully was feeling better enough to return to work today, but good gravy, this momma is tired!

Happy 1st birthday, baby boy!
Oh Luke, you are such a grown up boy!!
Luke turned 1 July 14! We had a little party for him with family and close friends Saturday afternoon. He really had a good time, I can honestly say! I didn't really think he would care too much about what was going on, but he was SO into the balloons, people, the decorations and obviously his new toys to play with! Cousin Noah was also here to help him play and show him how big boys do things!
We had snacky foods, mostly things that HE loves. Rice Krispy treats, little sandwiches, fruit and veggies, crackers (with a cream cheese dip), 7 layer dip and chips and green sherbet punch, chocolate cupcakes and a mini chocolate cake for his very own. I'll post pictures at some point. He did very well with the cake! This isn't his first experience with cake (oops), so he knew what he was getting himself into..hehe. Very carefully at first, he picked a bite at a time. It was pretty cute! After a few minutes he got a little more hyper with it and had fun squishing it in his hands. I'm pretty sure he would have eaten the whole thing if we let him!
At this point, we haven't had a 1 year appointment, so I'm not sure what he's weighing or measuring. He's able to say mama, dada, cat, duck-duck, wave bye-bey, and waves his arms all crazy as his way of clapping..lol. He does things he's so proud of, such as figuring out the cabinet doors open. I love how he looks to us for approval and smiles really big when he sees us watching! He's into EVERYTHING! I know once he starts walking, I won't be able to keep up. :) The other day he took a few steps holding onto the tv stand, moving to his toy that was a few steps away! He did SO good and was SO proud of himself. That giant toothy grin and giggle gets me every time. Speaking of, around 11 months he cut his top 2 teeth. They're almost all the way in now. He looks like such a big boy with those teeth. No more baby look, which kinda makes mommy sad!!
He basically eats all that we eat at our meals and we're working on being completely on milk and not formula. It's not for a taste issue with him, but more of a milk tolerance thing I'm wondering is going on. Right now, we're using carnation canned milk and half formula. I'll hopefully try milk again at the end of the week, as so far he's tolerating this fine. We'll see if the rash reappears. Nate and I have been working on getting him off that before bedtime sippy cup, so I guess we're cutting that now that he's officially ONE!
Last year we were working with a record drought when he was born. This year, exactly 1 year later, there was flooding all over the place in north Houston and they news stations said we're actually in a rain surplus for this year so far. Praise the Lord!
This year has been such an amazing, blessed, adventurous year!! Luke has brought a new element to our family, and we really don't know what life was like without him!! He has an infectious smile, such a ham of a personality, looks like both Nate and I in equal parts, has his momma and daddy's height and deep dark blue eyes. We absolutely can't wait to watch as he grows and develops into his little personality over this next year. I can only wish it would slow down, but i know it will be the opposite. The Lord has been so good to us, allowing us to be the parents of this amazing child. Happy Birthday, sweet little man!!
