New....

background!!  I get too bored with one background, so expect this to happen pretty often! :)

Sooooo... I officially graduated from nursing school on 12/20 and am now a GN (graduate nurse).  I can't call myself an RN (registered nurse) until I pass my state boards.  I haven't scheduled it yet, so that will be my last and final hurdle to achieving this goal of being an RN.  This particular test is called the NCLEX.  It should be fun ;)

Nate and I are looking forward to celebrating our 2nd Christmas together!!  I'm praying everyone has a wonderful, blessed Christmas, remembering the reason for the season.

I'm Finished!!!

Praise the Lord!!!! I finished nursing school!! I'll graduate next weekend, and it will be official. This has been such a journey of faith, strength, patience, humility, and endurance. There are I'm sure a million other words that could describe the road I've been on for the past 2 years since beginning this endeavor. I am just so thankful that I accomplished my goals (graduating with honors, and induction into the international honor society) and stuck through it when I truly felt I could not go on. The Lord has been so good to me. I can't imagine why a God so big could want anything to do with my poor soul, but He heard my cry when I was at my lowest... well at all times, for that matter. He raised me up and gave me strength, wisdom, and knowledge, so for all of this accomplishment, I give him the glory.

I also have to mention my amazing husband. Nate and I had not yet met when I started the whole process of nursing school. I quit my entire life in Dallas in October 2006 and moved home, where I planned to live while going back to school. My plans before I moved home and quit my job were to got to UT at the medical center, but after finding out all the details (once I had already moved), that was not going to be possible. So, at this point, I felt I had moved home for nothing, and that I had made the worst mistake in my life. I didn't know what God was doing. I thought He had called me to this, and now the only option available to me was out of the question. The reason being was that I had to live with my parents, bc nursing school is full time. I would not be able to work and pay for rent, or anything else for that matter, which meant the school had to be close enough for me to commute. So there you have it. I was crushed beyond belief that the only school I could go to, was not an option. In the meantime, my mom had been taking me to a bible study with her where I met a dear friend of mine, Lana Fisher. In a random conversation, she mentioned that Texas A&M Corpus Christi had a satellite program in College Station. I would never have been able to know that, had it not been for her. So i figured out how to apply- and it was perfect! I believed I could commute from my parent's house to college station and this school needed no prerequisites to apply, so it was golden!!! Little did I know how hard and competitive it was to get in. So i began my prerequisites at Montgomery College in January 2007, after applying to TAMU... this all in hopes that I would get in. Needless to say, I has having a lot of anxiety about the waiting and the unknown!!! So here I am going about my business, taking my horrific load of prerequisites, so I can have them done in time to "possibly" start school in August. (if i got accepted) Crazy times. On March 5, I met Nate. He happened to live in college station!! He swept me off my feet, like nothing i had ever experienced. We began a whirlwind of a relationship, were engaged 2 months later, and married 3 months later on August 11, 2007. In the midst, I found out I was accepted at the end of May 2007 (1 of 20, out of 300 applicants), and planned our wedding, and went on our honeymoon, to return the weekend before I started nursing school. I moved in, and now had a home in college station, where I didn't have to commute to school. After the program started, I later understood there was no way possible that I could have commuted from north Houston, and have done this program at the same time. God knew, though, and he so carefully and intricately crafted this whole plan, and it worked out to a T!! It is perhaps one of the greatest memories of time in my life, of God's evident and powerful hand.

So back to Nate. He knew what he was getting into when he met me. He has stood by me, been there to calm me down when I had my numerous panic attacks in school, was my shoulder to shed tears on, prayed with me, encouraged me, held me, loved me, and supported me throughout this entire process. I seriously have the most wonderful husband in the world. Seriously!!! I am so, so blessed by our relationship, and the example he sets for me. He is truly a man of God. He is so gentle and wise, patient and comforting. I could not imagine that I would ever have a husband who was so fitting for me. We often tell each other that we feel God made us specifically for one another, and we truly believe that. We would not have met, had I not followed this nursing school journey, or him following the Lord's leading to take a random job in college station, in August 2006. We are so blown away by all of that.
I absolutely love this man, and love being married to him. Ok enough of the mushiness.

So with all that said, I'm DONE!!!!!!!!!!! I finished the journey, and I am SOOO STINKING EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New Job!

After some long days of interviewing, I just found out I will be working for St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital of The Woodlands, TX. I am so so SO excited for this new journey, and Nate and I are anxious to move and get settled back in Houston. This has been such a blessing and has come out of some really unexpected experiences in the whole job hunt/interview process. I'll explain.

I began looking for jobs at the beginning of the semester. I know it sounds early, but the nursing world is different, and internships/preceptorships are available for new nurses. I really wanted to go this route for my career path, as they really train you and teach you, rather than getting a regular job and having them just throw you into caring for people. These things are highly competitive and they begin taking applications early on. So I applied for an OR internship at The Methodist hospital in downtown Houston. Their interview process was long and vigorous. After going to 3 separate interviews, having to spend the night in Houston at each one, I found out I got the job! Yay, right?? It seemed perfect for me and I was super excited. There was a stipulation though. They decided to inform me on that same day they offered the job, that I would have to be ok with assisting in abortions. It IS the operating room, but oh my goodness.. I never would have thought about that! Basically, I could not be hired if I didn't want to be a part of that. I couldn't deny my feelings of sadness, rejection, and actuall, utter persecution. I couldn't have a job because of my religious and moral convictions?? Wow, what are we coming to?? I had my heart set on the OR for several reasons. The hourse are amazing, it's a totally different type of care, and I had vowed in the whole process of nursing school, that I would never do something such as Med/Surg or Telemetry. Needless to say, my new job is now Med/Surg and Telemetry! In this process, God has showed me so much, and has humbled me to an extreme. My goal was to know my job by October 1. I didn't have a job until December 2. He has taught me patience and utter reliance on Him, and Him alone, for His ways are higher, and His plans are better. They are perfect!!

So all that said, I cannot wait to start my job on January 12!!! Praise the Lord!!
